The branch did an excellent job on July 10th Strike. We were well organised and our action was successful in closing 34 schools, with 30 part closed. John Harvard, Nunhead, Blue Anchor, East Street, Brandon, Grove Vale and Kingswood Libraries were all closed! There were no refuse collections anywhere in the borough so well done to Veolia members as well. Now we're asking all our members to contact their local councillor and ask them to ensure the Local Government Employers Organisation re-opens negotiations with us.
Congratulations to everyone that took part in Strike action for pay J10! We had solid pickets at over 11 different workplaces across the borough. Nationally the employers haven't commented on the turn out which is a very good sign. We have good public support with surveys showing 70% of the public support our cause. Once again the media were wrong footed in trying to play down our story. We know more still has to be done and now is the time to contact your local councillor tell them that you were prepared to make the sacrifice of a days pay to fight for public services - what are they doing to save public services?
